What You Need to Know About Wedding Dress Alterations

Timing;

When to come to us: It is usual for any bride to have nerves before the wedding. You have to make sure the timing for altering your wedding dress is the right time, not too early or too late. You may gain or lose weight after altering your dress, affecting the dress's overall look and fit. We recommend allowing 4 to 8 weeks before your first fitting.

 

Fitting;

For proper fit, it's essential to time your alterations correctly. If you bring your gown in too early, you might not get a proper fit. (You may lose or gain weight after altering your gown, which could affect the dress's overall look and fit.) Bring your gown in too late, and you risk not allowing enough time to let the seamstress work their magic. We recommend allowing two to three months from your first fitting to your last as an ideal timeline to make all the alterations. Also, remember that the number of times you need to go for fittings depends on how much you're getting done to the gown—on average, most brides go for three or four fittings.

Wedding gowns have so many complex details—boning, hems, bustles, and so on—that it's best to find a professional who's seen and worked on such gown components in the past.
